Screening for Unusual Volume
A trading technique that I first learned from another trader, Bryan Lobreau of Day Trading Demystified, relies on screening for unusual volume.
Bryan uses the screener at Finviz.com and sets the Signal to “Unusual Volume”. He then filters the results for any stocks that have a current trading volume over one million shares (this means the stocks should be liquid and have a narrow Bid/Ask spread).
With this list of stocks in hand, Bryan will then take the ticker list to a chart application where he will search for stocks moving in a sideways consolidation.
If found, he will put in an alert for the stock to let him know when it pushes to a New High.
Pretty straightforward, and worth knowing.
